What is a zine?

Well, it's hard to define zines because they can be made in so many different ways, different sizes, and for different reasons. Some people write zines to share their thoughts or to teach a topic. There are no rules. Zine-making tools usually consist of paper, pens, markers, paint, typewriters, stickers, and mixed media art. They are typically printed on a photocopy machine.

Camp Mission

Picture

Introduce young people to a new way of creatively expressing themselves! Children will work both independently and within a group. A perfect opportunity to expand on their art, writing, and social skills while being in a fun environment.

Zine camp will focus on ZINES, but also friendship, communication, and documenting the world. Kids will enjoy creative writing, learning about mail art, and making art with items in nature! This year is extra exciting because Sage will teach the creative process Smash Booking! Each camp attendee will receive a blank art journal to work in and take home at the end of camp along with their zines!

Our goal is to make zines and art and friends.
Space is limited, so don't delay in registering! All materials are included in the camp fee.

Statements from families about their zine camp experience:

"It was a wonderful experience and he loved it." - Child's Grandmother
"Hi Sage. I just wanted to let you know how much H enjoyed camp. When I told him on Thursday afternoon that Friday was the last day, he shed a few tears. It was so great to be able to give him some creative structure in a supportive environment. " - H's Mom
"K has been having a great time at Zine Camp.  You straight up blew his mind with the watermelon popsicles!!!" - K's Mom
"Can we come back? : ) My son had an absolute blast at Zine Camp in July! Sage's passion for zines is palpable and her sense of fun is contagious! She is also one of the kindest and coolest people I know. Each day at camp was full of wonderfully fun and creative activities. And with Sage's guidance and encouragement, all the campers grew in great (and proud!) Zine creators! We are so lucky to have such incredibly unique, innovative, and enriching opportunities right here in the harbor! Thank you for sharing your talents and time, Sage!" - Zine Camper's Mom
"My daughter LOVED Zine Camp! She has always loved to write, draw, and create, but when she started making zines at camp, something really clicked and she just can't stop! She's been mailing her zines to friends and family, and teaching her friends how to make zines of their own. I'm so happy I found out about Sweet Candy Distro's zine camp this summer, and for all that she learned there. I wish there was a Zine Camp for moms! I would totally go! Thank you, Sage!"

"I liked zine camp a lot. I had fun doing all the art projects and things." (From Olivia)
